Artist's Comments

people have been telling me to do one of these for ages now, but i was never sure how to go about it. since no one has ever taught me how to use my markers, i don't know how i was supposed to teach anyone else. ^^; so here are som basic tips for beginners with Prismacolor markers, as well as a few other helpful hints thrown in.

Someday when i can afford new markers (read: the 12th of never), i'll do a tutorial with one drawing starting from the beginning. But that'll probably never happen now. ._.

The biggest thing to remember is you need LOTS of practice with markers! I've been using them now for 3 years. And look at the difference between my Owen and Abby pics, which were done about a year apart. It may be slow, but it's an improvement. ^^;

Full-view or download for the tutorial! Fair warning, it's 1200x3000 pixels, so be patient, dial-up friends. And please excuse any and all typos. :\

Enjoy! And if you liked this and found it helpful, let me know!

Lan's Marker Tips. Tell your friends! :XD:

yay! i'm glad you liked it! I was a little nervous about this, since i've never done anything like this before. So i'm glad a collector of tutorials approves. :love: I'm glad it didn't cause your dial-up to explode either. I did it at 72 DPI so that it would be easier to load.

Nicely done. It makes sooo much more sense as a Markering Tuturial. I will learn to read one of these days. Either way you did a good job and some well displayed tips for would be markerers. Keep up the good stuff!

Fearn Tips: Use bleach to remove marker that you DON'T want. Works best on marker paper.

Go under your sink and look for different cleaning solutions.. :P Try splattering them on marker to see what you get. ^.^ I like rubbing alchohol (can be used as a bender as well).

Awesome tutorial. Woot! Blenders ROCK

Wow, so complex and detailed ^^ I rarely draw in 'real life' but when I do I use oil paints, so it's very different... But it's quite interesting to read about markers and paper and so on, I didn't think there was so much involved there. (but I guess to outsiders thigs always look simpler then they are... or maybe it's just me)
:iconazarath:
like i said, they take a lot of practice. i would love to see something by you with traditional media. i don't think i ever have seen one by you like that.

Well, I have only one semi descent oil piece, just has a bunch of trees on it... Maybe I could photograph it and post it here... if I can work the magic digital camera ... How hard can it be really, right?
