Bleh, I am in a rut. I am very unsatisfied with my own drawings lately. I never really liked them much, but one thing I always thought was fine was my style. But now I am really starting to dislike it. I know my drawings have improved (
this has shown me that), but I don't feel like my style is appealing at all. Nothing to make it stand out and say "This is Lan's work." ._. I try to change it, to make it more cartoony, more realistic, more stylized, anything... but I can't seem to come up with anything interesting. I look to artists I love for inspiration, but I don't just want to copy what they are doing.
So what's a girl in an artistic rut to do? Should I push through it and keep doing what I am doing and ignore my whiny art muse? Or should I keep experimenting and see if anything helps? I've started redesigning my characters for TMFM so I can start working on the script/thumbnails, but I want to work on the revamped character designs first...

[link]This week I have another MRI and doctor's appointment... there's a chance I herniated another disk in my back. ._.; I guess that's not helping my mood either. I also cannot seem to change my mood icon. *pokes it*

I will not respond to DD suggestion notes. It's not to be rude, but I DO read every one and then file them in my Notes. Trust me! I'm very grateful for all suggestions as finding DDs isn't easy.

while I'm touching you.
What I'm trying to say is keep doing what you've been doing all along. Keep going as you are, just don't stop.
And to me, when your an artist...and you make sacrifices for your art, thats when you will truely love and accept your works.
Your art reflects how much you've sacrificed to make it that far. And never compare yourself with others, cause while you may not accept your art, others will.
And btw, your art work is awesome, if you want your art to stand out like you want to...you'll have to give it some time.
The more you stick to your style, the more it'll grow, and the more it'll stick out. And to me, I can tell its your style. So don't be discouraged.
Hey if my words don't inspire you to keep going....uhhh, try watchin' some Gurren Lagann.
A little bit different from you... I'm easily bored with some style after I feel like I almoooost succeed learning one!
I guess the only "red thread" of my arts are the color pallet. I like using warm colors. I also like to work on details like nuts and portraying melancholic themes.
I think it's kinda great to keep experimenting, finding new way of playing with brushes... until one day, some day... you might settle down with the style you love most!
So keep drawing things that you like coz it's the best to practice!!

If you're really unhappy with the way you draw then I think you need to figure out what it is that you dislike so much. Saying it's the style won't help much in the wider basis of things because there's so many different factors that make up someone's style so identifying key factors could help.
After that it's a case of keep going at it and continue to develop your current style and see what happens, or take a break from it. Taking a break helped me when I was in a rut - I stopped drawing for about a month and when I started again it was as though I had a blank canvas so to speak and I could try something new.
Also, you shouldn't feel bad for using someone else's style as inspiration - if anything, it's flattering.
Good luck with it all, anyway
