I always love hearing new bands and music. However i am extremely picky. I also love bands tha allow me to download MP3s (i.e. no Kazza - bad spyware! baaaad). So, recommend me some music! but keep in mind, things i do NOT like: Country, hard-core rap, anything where there is more screaming than singing, techno/dance/anthing repetative-sounding, "nu-metal" or whatever you want to call it.

And in return you all must go download Self NOW! B/c i haven't shoved these guys downb your throat enough...! Dozens of free MP3s available at [link] and the new b-side Flash player is available at [link] What are you waiting for?! GO!

Uh hmm... You could try The Mars Volta. They're very eclectic; sort of technoish at times, Led Zeppelin-y, Pink Floyd-y.

Also try Econoline Crush, Onesidezero, and most definitely Tool if you haven't listened to them yet. Deftones are also great but you said more screaming than singing = bad. A Perfect Circle is like a take off of Tool (Only way different), and also try VNV Nation if you like industrial. Oh, and Population 1. I know one of the guys in there and I'm just getting into their stuff.

That help?

Dude, i freakin LOVE the Mars Volta. =D So good choice there! I've always liked Tool (sadly tho i don't own anything by them), but i am not too familiar with APC. All i know of them is how the folks on the Self message board griped about their cover of Failure's "The Nurse Who Loved Me". ^^; Yeah, Deftones aren't my bag. ~aesiraven is a huge VNV Nation fan.. it's iffy if i'll like 'em, but i'll try anything once. I've heard of Econoline Crush, but never heard anything by them... and the otehr 2 you mentioned are mysteries to me. So i'll check 'em out. Thanks man!

Definately get "Prison Sex" by Tool. Or "Sweat". I'm more of an Industrial Rock fan, but I get most of my music from Limewire (Adaware or similar program will pick off the spyware) and WinMX. Both of which have worked out pretty well for me.

I also own a bunch of CDs, so if you're interested in anything (right now I have a bunch of whole CDs mp3ed onto my computer) especially from Bush, collective soul, or Rammstein I could pass them your way.

Mars Volta is awesome, I so totally agree, wish they'd come out with another album...seeing as how the last (first) one was a conglomeration concept album...I'm not sure what they'd do next, but I'd readily buy it.

LAN....check out Head Automatica....I really really like them. It's sort of like punk meets disco...but trust me, it's not a bad thing. I don't know where you can download their music for free, but they're the best new band I heard last year, well, besides HIM.

And if anyone rips on A Perfect Circle for doing a cover of Failure, then you can rip on Failure for doing a cover (that I love) of Enjoy The Silence. Everyone does covers, and APC does them exceptionally well....witness their covers of Imagine, What's Goin' On, etc.

Dude, those are great Tool songs. I have them... for some reason Tool is one of those bands i've always liked but never bought the albums of. Probably b/c growing up, my brothers had them, and there was no need for em to have them. But i have a few assorted songs on various old mix tapes.

And BTW i L-O-V-E doing CD swaps. Especially mixed CD swaps. And especially mixed tape swaps, but i'm the only one who cares about tapes any more. :XD: As far as Bush, i have 16 Stone and Razorblade Suitcase. As far as Rammstein, i have their 3 major releases (don't expect me to spell them; i don't speak German!), but do you have their new one?? I REALLY want it. I love Rammstein. Have you seen them in concert? I demand that you do! You'll most likely have your eyebrows burned right off your face, but it's worth it.

If we didn't use dial-up i'd check out those programs. Thanks for the heads up if we ever do upgrade, tho.

Well the problem with the APC cover of The Nurse Who Loved Me was that they didn't give much or any credit to the band or something, and the Selfies were angry that they might act like it was rtheir own song, or that people might think it was their own song, all the credit to Failure being lost... or something. It was awhile ago. I'd have to go dig up the post.

Head Automatica... that sounds familiar. You know, a friend of mine left a crapload of MP3s on my computer that i haven't had a chance to listen to, and i wonder if one of the folders in there is them. If not, i'll look for them next time i have money to waste (ha!) at the used CD shop.

Have you heard the new Mars Volta single? Es muy magnifico! I can't wait for the new album too. I need to new Beck CD and Ep off of iTunes too...ugh! i need some cash! MUST FEED ADDICTION! *hugs her nearly 300 CD and tape collection*

I've got all their CDs actually (and their DVDs), those being Herzeleid, Sehnsucht, Mutter, Live Aus Berlin, and Reise Reise (which is their new one) which is awesome and I'd be more than happy to share.

Most of this stuff I dunno where you'd manage to get since I'm a fan of indy labels/music but if you really want to hear some of this stuff I could go and host a choice selection on my server for ya.

Anyhoo, t3h list in no particular order:

-Mustard Plug-
My personal favorite ska band and perhaps my overall 2nt favorite band ever. They just have kickin' songs. The fact that they're semi-local just makes them that much better since I get to see them live so often.

Songs of note: The Freshmen (verve pipe cover), Skank by numbers, Away from here, Someday right now, Mr Smiley

-The Dispatch-
One of my favorite groups. They just have an amazing blend of jam rock/accustic with a little regga flavor to it. Throw in their firm grasp for good lyrics and you've got a very tasty blend of audio goodness.

Songs of note: The General, Open up, Fats, Two Coins, Cover This, Time Served, Prince of spades

-The Ataris-
They have really, really good good lyrics and catchy songs. My 3rd favorite band overall. Punk rock, but thought provoking. Also gets the award for longest freaking song titles.

Songs of note: Between you and me, In this diary, Takeoffs and Landings, So long astoria, That special girl, Summer wind was always our song, How I spent summer vacation, Eight of nine, Unopened letter to the world, Fast times at dropout high

-Weezer-
If you haven't already heard them, there's not much I can do to help you. v.v

Songs of note: Surf wax america, Say it ain't so, only in dreams, The good life, El Scorcho, Island in the sun

-The Get Up Kids-
Interesting indy/punk band

Songs of note: Holiday, Come Clean, Shorty, I'm a loner dottie a rebel

-No Use For A Name-
More interesting indy rock.

Songs of note: International you day, Pre-medicated murder, Any number can play, Friends of the enemy, Insecurity Alert.

-Bad Religion-
Balls-to-the-walls punk rawk action. 'Nuff said.

Songs of note: You, Atomic Garden, I want to conquer the world, Superman, 1000 memories, 21 century digital boy, Slumber, Come join us, The gray race, 10 in 2010, Pity the dead, Them and us,

-The Distillers-
West coast punk rock. Sunshine and razorblades. One of my favorite bands.

Songs of note: Dismantle me, I am a revenant, Die on a rope, Love is paranoid, City of angels, Drain the blood

-Dropkick Murphys-
Boston irish punk. Hardcore booze and barfights music.

Songs of note: Halloween (misfits cover), Bastards on parade, The outcast, Fields of athenry, Memories remain, Finnagan's wake, Skinhead on the MBTA, The Fighting 69, Devil's Brigade, Pipebomb on Lansdowne, The Spicy Mc Haggis jig
