To me, if the art is terrible or is really amateurish, I dont care. I like a good story and characters over perfect artwork. Hell, I used to read Knights of the Dinner Table! That is not a comic you look at for art. XD
Any comic I start is going to have terrible art. TERRIBLE. Comics are good practice, but I dont want to make one if no ones gonna read it cuz its not perfect. We all have to start somewhere.

As long as I can see that the artist had taken some time and care to make their comics the best as they possibly can I read em whether they look amateurish or not. Even if the drawings might not be the best I know that they've taken some time on their drawings so I expect that they really have something of worth to say
I found the my first attempts at a comic book the other day and still can't believe bought that stuff or read it, even my second attempt wasn't that great. It would seem that people will overlook poor art for an interesting story above all else.
If I ever get these novels out of the way I'll post one of those things that shows the artist progress and scan in a few of the old pages for you to see what I mean.
So just focus on the art of storytelling more then anything else and the art will come over time. The only way to improve is to get too it and start drawing.
Well jaa ne and luck to you.

"I don't care if the art isn't great, so long as the story/characters are interesting and fun."
honestly, most of the mangas I have read (for instance, most of peach pit's works) have limited to no shading and are sometimes hard to follow who's talking (damn it, use speech bubble tails lol). But I love the stories, so I keep reading
